Dangerous Zebra Stripes, King of the Ocean The Marvelous Lion Fish

Also called turkey fish, dragon fish and scorpion fish, the Lion Fish are native to the reefs and rocky crevices of the Indo Pacific Ocean. However they have managed to find their ways to other warm water regions across the world.

Wanted as a food source in some places of the world, this beautiful yet dangerous fish has become very popular in the aquarium trade industry.

Growing up to one foot in size and weighing up to two pounds these fascinating creatures carry a powerful venom which delivers via an array of up to 18 needle like dorsal fins.

Although its venom is purely defensive and not intended to harm,  it also relies on its camouflage and super fast reflexes to capture prey, like fish and shrimp.

A sting from a lion fish is very painful to all humans and causes nausea, difficulty breathing and in very rare case death.
